Who’s Your Wingman?

Thanks to Top Gun Maverick, the concept and value of a wingman has become today’s preferred terminology for those how have our backs, especially in challenging times. And the necessity to have honest, predictable, and loyal wingmen is more important now than ever.

Your wingman can be your CFO who accurately and honestly manages your finances viably.

Your wingman can be your production manager who balances demand and inventory, so your clients are served timely.

Your wingman can be your attorney, who studies your contracts in detail, even the lines written in 6pt type (very small) and advises with data on key decisions and provides knowledge to substantiate your decision making.

Your wingmen can be your team whose willingness and dedication get the job done every day. Their loyalty, input and enthusiasm are the heart and soul of your company, but they need you to follow.

The list is truly endless and to avoid missing any who also are crucial to your successful flight towards your goals, it would be good to reflect what is required of the leader, the one that is supported by their wingmen.

A great leader has many of these traits:

  1. Has defined the goals and developed the strategy and is determined that they are accomplished and all win in their efforts to back him.
  2. Is not deterred or distracted by counter efforts or criticism but evaluates each and sees any potential learning gleaned and protects all the wingmen in so doing.
  3. Knows that the ‘I’s have it: Integrity, innovation, intelligence, inspiration, inquisitiveness, and influence.
  4. Understand that playing the game of life is not easy and has compassion for his wingmen and the ability to push all through any challenge with care and dedication.

Twice this past week Christie & Co was called a company’s wingman because we truly have our clients’ goals in focus, and ensure these are accomplished, no matter what the challenge. Our 30 years of experience underscores our recommendations, staying the course and removing distraction, even if they may be the newest ’shiny object’.  It is our honor to be the wingman. Let us know how we can be yours.
