Is your world becoming too complex? Deadlines? Traffic? Barrages of electronic communications? Finances? Negativity? News? Not enough time with family? Demanding production schedules? FitBits telling you to exercise more? Business stresses?
It is time to take a Thoreau-ian journey to experience simplicity, from its aesthetic appreciation to its intellectual therapy.
You could venture to Concord, walk in his footsteps, perch on the hearthstone of his minimalistic cabin, swim blissfully in his spring fed crystal pond, watch the ducks swoop down to the still water’s surface for a delicious breakfast, hear the gentle rustle of the oak leaves blending with the pines as a laughing wind passes through, smell the rich humus of last winter’s leaves as they become nutrients for the sprouting ferns, feel the softness of the moss between our shoe-freed toes, and smile at the invasion of ‘civilized’ society as the commuter train races by on the nearby hillside scurrying harried execs off to Boston to make today’s deal.
Or, applying that same ethos to the everyday, you could look around and appreciate that your office mate brought in homemade scones whose sweet buttery crumbles made your morning coffee sparkle, or your children shared their most recent Crayola masterpiece.
Like Thoreau, my formula to Live Simply is….Observe, Appreciate, Communicate, Listen, Interact, Breathe, Ponder, Walk, Love, Share, and just Live. Shed unnecessary junk- physically as well as emotionally. Your life will blossom with happiness. It is simple.
And yes, this same formula works in business.
